What Does Sigma Pi Do?

You may be asking yourself what a fraternity actually does. Of course all fraternities throw great parties and enjoy the essence of "college life," but there's more to it than that. Here's a quick rundown of some of our major events and efforts:

Brotherhood: Nearly each week we host brotherhood events ranging from paintball to milk chug or other food eating contests or just gathering together to enjoy a meal at one of our favorite restaurants. Such restaurants include CiCi's, Springfield Brew Co., Mexican Villa, Flame, and other local restaurants. When the weather is good, we also make use of our outdoor grill while enjoying a game of frisbee or washers.

Intramurals: We pride ourselves in our intramural participation. We participate in each of the sports: flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, racquetball, and dodgeball. We are currently six year champions for the overall tournament. Most brother participate in at least one sport each year.

Oktoberfest: In addition to themed parties and off-campus formal dances organized throughout the semester, we also organize our annual Oktoberfest week each October. During this week we entertain our dates with a variety of events such as bowling, martini night, mini golf, and movie night, as well as the traditional paintball, a brotherhood event held on the first day of the week. The week is capped off by having a formal dance at a local banquet/dance hall.

Community Service: Sigma Pi dedicates over 1,000 hours each year to our philanthropic efforts. Our Altruistic Campus Experience (ACE) project is a recurring annual event. This years ACE project helped jumpstart the Katrina relief efforts on our campus. We organize a blood drive each spring to help the efforts of the American Red Cross, our national philanthropy. We also participate in the Adopt-A-Street program, where we clean Benton street, which borders Drury's Campus, twice per semester. In addition, we also contribute time and money to several other events and organizations on and off campus: MS-150, Aids Walk, Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society/Relay for Life,

Exchanges: Each year we have organize exchanges with the sororities on our campus (Zeta, Pi Phi, Kappa Delta, and the Tri-Delta), as well as themed parties with some of the athletic teams. In the past, our exchanges have consisted of bowling, roller skating, ball-room dancing lessons, bonfires, barn swings, dodgeball, kickball, and casino night.

Spring Formal: Similar to Oktoberfest week, Spring Formal is a week in the spring dedicated to fun events for our brothers and their dates. At the end of the week, we travel to another city for our formal dance. Recently, weve held Spring Formals at Tan-Tar-A at the Lake of the Ozarks, Kansas City, and Tulsa.

Fun around the House: Most of the excitement takes place around the fraternity house, but this of course never takes away from studying time. There is a great balance of social and academic life in our house.

Scholarship: We encourage members to finish their schoolwork before participating in any fraternity event. Scholarship is one of our main ideals, so we organize study halls for our new and active members and also have a test and study file in place. In addition, many of our brothers share the same major, so study and project groups are a constant occurrence in and around the house.
