What Sets Us Apart?

"The Sigma Pi chapter is one for others to look up to. These guys are some of the most genuine people I have ever met. They always make everyone feel welcome and are gentlemen. In addition to these traits it seems that this chapter always enjoys being around one another and puts 100% into everything and have wonderful participation. Their passion and commitment for their fraternity make me want to be a part of their chapter even though I am a female."

-Sorority member's nomination of Sigma Pi for Best Chapter Award, awarded Spring 2006.
Drury University has four fraternties for a prospective member to chose from.

All of Drury's fraternities have great parties, strong brotherhoods, and enjoy the company of the ladies of DU -- these are a given when joining a fraternity on any campus. Aside from those obvious facts, there are other aspects of fraterntiy lie that make the experience complete. Some chapters will claim they excel in scholarship, community service, and leadership on campus, but we can prove it by the awards we've received and the caliber of men who are members of Sigma Pi.

Beware of fraternities that only talk about parties, girls, and alcohol! These fraternities are usually hiding the fact that the other aspects of their chapter are weak. As you'll see below, Sigma Pi not only talks about these other aspects, we excel at them.

You should want to join a fraternity that is seen as more than just a "drinking club." Sigma Pi offers you the "full package" -- the best, most well-rounded, fraternity experience on Drury's campus. Here are some major reasons why Sigma Pi is different than the other fraternities -- reason's why you owe it to yourself to check out our house during summer rush events and when school begins this fall.

SCHOLARSHIP
Holding the highest grades for 22 out of the 24 years we've existed on Drury's campus is one of our proudest accomplishments. We organize weekly study halls, utilize a class help file (consisting of past tests, worksheets, and notes), and receive advice from our faculty advisor and upperclassmen members. At the end of each semester, we recognize brothers with the highest and most improved GPA's at a scholarship banquet with monetary scholarships. In addition, our national fraternity offers a number of scholarships each year to members involved in their chapter.

LEADERSHIP
We offer new members the immediate opportunity to get involved by placing them on committees that organize fraternity events. Initiated members serve the chapter as executive council members and committee chairs. We also hold workshops for new members to teach life and leadership skills -- time management, business etiquette, etc. Sigma Pi, International also sponsors two leadership conferences each year -- a Mid-Year Leadership Conference in St. Louis and an alternating summer conference (Sigma Pi University on odd years, Sigma Pi Convocation on even years). These conferences allow the leaders of leaders to unite, learn, share experiences, and have some fun too!

CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
Perhaps the best leadership skills are learned by our involvement in several other campus activities. Our members are leaders in the organizations they belong. Sigma Pi's are visible on SIFE, The Mirror, SGA, SUB, ACS, Phi Beta Lambda, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Ad Club, Habitat for Humanity, Math & Computer Science Club, and various other honor and extracurricular groups.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
During the 2005-2006 Academic year, we logged over 1,200 hours of community service. We jumpstarted the Katrina hygiene bag collection effort, which later invovled every student organization on campus. At the end of the spring semester we launched an annual 3x3 soccer tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club. It was a huge success and we plan to make the event a tradition. Each year we provide man hours to several philanthropic efforts including The Red Cross (our national philanthrophy), MS-150 Bike Ride, AIDS walk, Adopt-A-Street, IFC Service Auction, Boyd Elementary. In addition, we also fully participate in the service efforts of our fellow Greeks -- Kappa Delta's Shamrock Week, Pi Phi's Puttin' On The Lips, Zeta's Think Pink Week, Tri-Delta's Delta Days, Lambda Chi's Watermellon Fest, and Sigma Nu's Benefit Basketball Tournament.

ACE PROJECT
Sigma Pi, International started the Altruistic Campus Experience in 2002 in an effort to help Sigma Pi chapters build a sense of pride in their university and local Greek systems. Since the project's launch we've conducted several ACE projects, ranging from a plastic recycling program to hygiene kit collections for Hurrican Katrina victims. Sigma Pi is THE ONLY fraternity that has a program as paramount as ACE.

BROTHERHOOD
Whether we're hanging out at Buffallo Wild Wings on Thursdays, watching a movie at the house, or grilling out, our brotherhood is as strong as one could hope. We don't allow members to join and fade away -- members WANT to stay involved in the happenings of the chapter. At Sigma Pi, you'll know who your brothers are from the beginning. You'll be able to better benefit from these strong relationships both during your undergraduate tenure and in your life after college. Sigma Pi is a lifelong experience - it doesn't end with graduation.

INTRAMURALS
We participate in every intramural sport each year and have even sponsored one of our own when the school decided to cut funding for soccer. We've been very successful in intramurals over the year, taking home the trophy the past five years and seven out of the eight previous years.

ALUMNI CONNECTIONS
Finding a job after graduating with a degree from Drury shouldn't be a hard task. But, for many, it is. That's why we've initiated an online "Alumin Connection" project. This online database collects job, industry, and location information from our current alumni in an effort to connect active brothers with an alumni who may be able to help them find a job. This database also allows us to help keep the alumni up-to-date on current happenings with the active chapter.
